The Story of J. Coons Workbench LLC

I started my woodworking  education many years ago when I would spend time with my dad out in his home workshop. Little did I know it then, but I learned a lot during that time and it started my interest in woodworking.

In high school, I took up photography and photographed for my high school newspaper. I went on to become a freelance photographer for a time while I was in college. My experience in photography gave me some very important insights about design and proportions that I use in my work today.

While I’ve been around woodworking my whole life, I didn’t really hit my stride until I setup my own small shop. A lot of trial and error has lead me to where I am today, but I believe that has led to a deeper appreciation and understanding  of the craft.  Learning and continual improvement are core values for me and ones that I try to always bring to my work.

Woodturning has always captured my imagination, but I did not get the chance to really start my time at the lathe until early 2020.  For as much as I’ve always enjoyed woodworking, woodturning is truly a passion for me. I was immediately in awe of the beauty that can be brought out in the form, function, and natural beauty of the wood. Woodturning has been my primary focus ever since.

I would like to sincerely thank you for helping to support my endeavor here. I invite you to follow me on this journey by visiting my Facebook and Instagram accounts. I also really enjoy hearing back from my customers and encourage you to email me any time. There I can answer product questions, comments, discuss custom work, or just chat about woodworking and questions about how these products are made.

Cheers,

J. Coons
